Ever wonder how a simple hard drive can spark wanderlust? Join Carmina as she transforms memories into moments that move us.
Ever wonder what it's like to run a YouTube channel or be a digital creator on any platform?
Some of us worry about constantly creating content and ensuring there's always something new for our viewers to enjoy.
In reality, it can be tough to revisit memories of past travels and recall every place you've been.
I've spent the past two days working on a trip I took seven years ago, and I'm certain that Basco, Batanes has changed since I last visited in 2018.
Looking back on memories is a great way to share experiences with people who have never been to certain places or even known they exist. Meeting new friends through social media allows them to see these places through your videos. Family and friends, you've traveled with in the past can also recall those memories, especially as some seniors start to forget.
In 2018, Carmina wasn’t even a blogger—just taking videos for fun as a hobby. One day, Becky suggested sharing travel experiences, saying there are people like her who have never been to those places. After asking other friends, they encouraged trying it out, saying it wouldn’t hurt.
My YouTube background picture is from Basco, Batanes, showcasing the beauty of nature and giving people a glimpse of where I’ve been. In October 2019, I started sharing on social media, beginning with Facebook. Sadly, in July 2023, my account was reported as fraudulent, and I lost almost 25,000 followers. I was monetized, and while the income wasn’t much, there was still a flow of money.
I also started a YouTube channel around the same time. Many said I couldn’t share the same content on both platforms. Like others, I got distracted and focused on other platforms. I eventually realized that on YouTube, numbers don’t matter much after reaching 1,000 subscribers because most don’t actually watch your videos. Some are supportive, while others are not, but it’s their choice if they want to help with watch hours.
Through this journey, I found supportive friends—some monetized, others small creators like me. Watching my 2018 videos now, I see how shaky and unpolished they were, something we all experience when starting out.
