Expired Food

I was just cleaning and organizing my in-law’s refrigerator with Manang Vcenta and I came across yogurt that has been expired from last year on the month of November and December. We realize the food was a lot and it is a waste of money. Manang Vcenta was concern what will her boss say about it.

The problem is the person who bought the food that is expired was our old employer who is no longer working for us. We never knew what items are being purchased because during that time it was Ruth’s responsibility.

We realized the old food and the newly purchase food wasn’t being rotated while it was stock up in the refrigerator or on the shelves.

We realize how much money is going to waste, but you also need to think of the person who may end up eating it and how much it will harm someone else’s health.

The fact that it is already expired too long we don’t want to risk other people to consume it and end up being food poison. We have to think how much it will cost if you are set to the hospital and they need to take care of you.

Right now being in the hospital is not that they will check if you have been food poisoning they might you have the coronavirus.

Who would want to stay 14 days in a quarantine being suspected?

This is not the first time I have seen someone’s refrigerator or panty filled with expiration food.

Every time I come and visit my families back home I have this way when I feel like cleaning someone’s home. I get jetlag and get bored when I end up staying at home when I have just arrived.
I end up cleaning up and organizing the pantry and finding expired food for so many months and years. Sometimes people hold on to their food and don’t want to throw it away.

It has happened to me many times in a row I always tell them it is a risk they are taking if they eat expired food.

I remember my sister gave me some food sent to me and my family. I never looked at the expiration date and I ate it with my staff. We had a bad stomachache. I had checked the food and it was expired for so many months.

After my bad experience I have learn to always check when the product will expire before you consume it.

It is always to play safe before you take a bite from something.

I am sure there a lot of people who end up shopping and not realizing they have so many back home. As we keep shopping and not realizing what we buy we end up filling our home with the same items.

Sometimes when you are use to buying a certain product it becomes a habit to buy the item even if you already have it in your home. Sometimes we forget to buy items that are listed on our grocery list and pay attention to stuff we are use to buying.

I know a lot of people who make these same mistakes over again and what happens they blame the people who didn’t purchase the items they have in their home as they start do inventory in their home.

This becomes a bad habit to people especially when food begins to start to spoil in their home. They end up giving it away to other people so they can start consuming it with no danger.

Have you ever come across someone giving you something because it is soon to expire? I know a lot of people who does this often. Are you one of them? It is normal to the Filipino cultural to give stuff that they have a lot stock up in their home. They no longer need to shop and give something away to someone because their store is at home.

They say, Filipinos are generous because we love to shop, eat and give things away as what we call pasalubong. It doesn’t mean necessary we have traveled somewhere, but the fact you haven’t seen each other it is token of just being who we are being thoughtful in our own way.
