Tired of the new rules, Carmina closed her Google Maps account — what pushed her over the edge?

It’s been months since Carmina last posted on her Google Maps. I started doing it just for fun, exploring new places to dine and travel, and sharing those spots with others. Back in 2017, I wasn’t even blogging yet. Over the years, I received numerous email updates about changes, but in September, the removal of followers on Google Maps felt particularly strange. There’s no point in complaining about it. I decided not to close my account, as it wasn’t an option, but I did delete all the photos I had contributed over the years. I have fond memories of seeing which photos were popular and had hoped to share them with you. It was surprising to see how many views my pictures had accumulated. While deleting them, I noticed that many restaurants and bakeries no longer exist, with some marked as unknown on the map. Most of my photos were from the pandemic period, a time when I could fully express myself and write about the food I enjoyed. Let's take a trip down memory lane with Carmina th...

Bad Experience Flying

I am not sure if I am the only one has encountered a bad experience when flying out from Manila or any other country. I have several stories to share with you that have happened in the past.

Story # 1:

During this time, we're riding Business Class from Philippine Airlines heading to San Francisco. Our plane had problems with the engine and was told it would be repaired enough time for us to fly. It ended up waiting so long our flight was postponed during the next day.

There we're other passengers complaining because they had to attend a meeting and other couldn't control them being impatient.

Philippine Airlines was offering us a hotel accommodation, but I figure I would rather get picked up by the driver and return back the next day.

I had emailed my sister to inform her that our flight was postponed.

Story # 2:

Mom Violy and I were leaving for Amsterdam. Mom Violy was already having a bad day. I remembered mom Violy had already converted our currency and we didn't have enough change to give a tip to the shuttle. Mom Violy's money just flew as she was handing the money to the guy who drove us.

I had to give the guy my last funds.

When we had reached the Qater Airlines counter to present our plane ticket the lady at the counter questioned Mom Violy that since she was using a US Passport, she was considered overstaying since when she had arrived last June for two weeks from the Philippines than she flew to Europe for one week it would consider her overstaying.

The lady had asked, mom Violy to present a source of document to state she was a residence of the Philippines. No one really carry around a title of your property when you travel.

Good thing I asked, the lady at the counter if mom Violy can just show proof, she is a residence by showing her Senior Card. Lucky the lady approved along with her manager.

I thought that would be the last of having our bad time returning back to the Philippines.

The bad luck had continued when our returning flight riding Qater Airlines was delayed the worse part we had a connecting flight which had interfered once we had arrived. We didn’t reach the next flight the doors closed and was sent to an accommodation to stay in a hotel paid by the aircraft.

This is the worst of all and no change of clothing.

Mom Violy was so crabby with lack of sleep. She slept the whole time in the hotel. I met a new Filipina friend, and we roamed around, but it was so hot to explore.

I remember when I had dined at the restaurant there, we’re three men looking at me. I am thinking they look like the age to become my father. I was right one man approached me ask for my phone number. I snob the guy and said, you look the age like my father. He still persisted and gave me his business card.

The following day I was able to fly back to Manila.

I was able to meet a new friend from my bad experience. Mom Violy finally decided to apply for dual citizenship.

Story # 3:

I remember this time mom Violy didn’t believe me when you are a US Passport you need to get a visa when you are traveling to Vietnam. Mom Violy had already paid our plane fare to ride Cebu Pacific Airlines along with her friend. Her friend and I we’re both had a Filipino Passport. We found out it would only be my mom Violy's friend and I who will be able to fly and travel to Vietnam. The worse part our ticket was non-refundable due to it was a promo flight.

Mom Violy didn’t allow us to travel without her. Our airfare was all a waste of money and our excited when down not going anywhere.

Story # 4:

I was flying with my relatives, and we just visited Hong Kong last year. My relatives we're visiting from the United States and visited the Philippines for two weeks. Cathy Pacific Airlines had questioned them for their returning flight from their country. Good thing my relatives had emailed a copy of their flight details and was able to get access of Internet to show them a copy of their returning flight.

Highlight:

Just based on our bad experience you learn from them and you learn from your experiences. You always make sure you have everything to show proof of your residence and your return flight e-ticket to show proof of your returning flight going back to your country just in case you encounter the same mistakes.

You learn to bring extra garments in your hand carry you never know when you would get stranded based on my experience.

Never again did I travel again with a connecting flight with mom Violy.
