When the longing for authentic Pinoy dishes strikes in the U.S., Isla Grand stands ready to transport your taste buds back to the Philippines.

Carmina is traveling to the United States to spend time with her family. My dad planned a family gathering for Mother's Day at their favorite Pinoy restaurant . Since reservations aren’t possible, we arrived an hour early to ensure we could get a table for twelve before everyone else showed up. As my dad approached Isla Grand , the branch we visited in Pleasant Hills, California , the host at the door said they could prepare a table for twelve at five o'clock. Later, the server called my dad's name and guided us to our table. The place was bustling with people enjoying meals and celebrating Mother's Day. On our first visit to Isla Grand, I was captivated by the décor, noticing many native items that gave the place a fancy yet authentic Filipino feel. They usually have a live band, but unfortunately, there was no entertainment the night we went. My family had spoken highly of Isla Grand and encouraged us to try the Filipino dishes we’ve been missing from back home. Lech...

My Life as A Teen

In my teens I was a very shy and timid. I would always hide behind some one's back when someone starts a fight. My hand would shiver and shake.

I had friends who took advantage of me because I was too sweet and nice. I always gave in what they wanted to do.

I never told them what I was feeling inside. Only when they really get into my nerves, and I can no longer keep it away from them. My friends hardly see me complain or say harsh things to them.

I was always the driver for my friends when we always went out. I would pick them up and come home late. My parents always complained because I would be tired, and my friends don't live in the same direction of my home.

At a point in my life my mom wanted me to get out of my shell and be confident about myself. I started taking modeling classes.

When I was traveling to the Philippines with my mom, she had a relative who knew someone where I can be exposed to modeling to the public.

She placed me in a fashion show and the designer was Goalie Grospe that was popular during that time. He was a client of my mom's relative.

My sponsorship was a hotel that was just newly established in the Philippines. The name of the hotel was Victoria Court.

Fashion Show

I had to take pictorial pictures just like an ordinary model had to do.

They had hired someone to publicized my pictures in a magazine with an interview. You will see as the article they made a mistake on my name.

It didn't stop there when I had traveled and decided to live in the Philippines during my adult years my cousin asked, me to be an extra in a Tagalog movie called, "Mangarap Ka".

The main character was Mark Anthony Fernandez and Claudine Barretto.

There we're other cast in the movie who I was able to spend time and hang out with them during the film.
