When Mom Violy wanted seafood, one name kept popping up: Breakthrough Restaurant. Would it live up to the hype?

After a road trip and exploring the area, Mom Violy requested some seafood and was given a recommendation to dine at  Breakthrough Restaurant . When we entered the restaurant, we saw it was bustling with customers, and Mom Violy asked for a table by the window to enjoy the beach view . The server informed us that we needed to place our order at the counter and choose the seafood to be weighed, similar to the process at Dampa . Tita Edna was busy snapping photos, while Carmina was filming as Mom Violy placed her order. Breakthrough isn’t air-conditioned, but they provide electric fans at your table for comfort. Mom Violy wanted sinigang and was deciding which kind of fish to have with her soup. Mom Violy requested the crab and shrimp to be cooked in butter and garlic. Mom Violy also ordered adobong pusit (squid). Tita Edna placed her own order, which was kilawin na dilis . Carmina wanted fresh lumpia , but since it wasn’t available, she opted for pinakbet instead. Palitaw Recipe



Palitaw is made of glutinous flour the meaning of palitaw comes from surface which is made flat topped with toppings with shredded fresh coconut, sugar and sesame seeds.

I will give you a secret seasoning we also put to add flavoring to this dish that will make it healthy for you as you are eating this dessert.

Palitaw Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Kilo - Glutinous Flour
  • 2 Cups - Fresh shredded coconut
  • 1/2 Cup - Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup - Sesame Seeds
  • Banana Leaf (cut size of an one cup)
  • Water

Preparing Palitaw

  • In a bowl you will add the glutinous and pour some water until it will stick together to form into a small ball
  • Place each ball on a plate

Steaming Bath

  • In a medium pot boil water once hot flatten the palitaw place inside the boiling water until it begins to float remove it place on the banana leaf do the same on remaining until done.

Cooking Sesame Seeds

  • In a frying pan place on stove top when hot add sesame seeds and toast it for short time than place in a bowl

Topping Preparation:

  • In a bowl add shredded coconut, brown sugar and sesame seeds together mix well

The secret ingredients are adding 1 Tablespoon cinnamon powder to the coconut, brown sugar and sesame seeds.

Final Step

  1. Each palitaw you will add a tablespoon of topping and spread using a spoon and place on a serving plate and ready to eat
