Mom Violy told me she wanted to order the Paella Negra from Dean & Deluca. Carmina suggested we dine in since we’d never really tried their main courses, always just getting takeout with the cream puffs . Mom Violy agreed, and we arrived about thirty minutes before the lunch rush began. The service was very slow, even though we had ordered ahead of time. They mistakenly brought out the Paella Valenciana , despite Mom Violy repeating the order three times to the person who took it. It turned out the cook on duty made the error, even though it was written down clearly. We know Paella Negra takes a long time to prepare, which is why Mom Violy had requested it to be cooked beforehand. She wanted it as her main meal, but because of the mix-up and feeling hungry, she took a piece of Carmina’s Turkey Club Sandwich and asked for the bacon on the side. I didn’t expect the turkey to be just one piece, and the bread was toasted so hard that it removed one layer of the sandwich. Since ...
Carmina decided to switch venues and explore cuisine from different countries.
For now, we can travel through the flavors of food served in the Philippines and share these experiences with others. This time, I decided to try some Pepi Cubano sandwiches.
Pepi Cubano features slow-roasted pork, ham, pickles, mustard, and cheese for PHP 190.00 ($3.80).
- Tito Choropan with chorizo hamonado, sliced jalapeños, cheese, and chimichurri sauce for PHP 170.00 (around $3.40).
Tip:
We asked for the chimichurri sauce to be served on the side to keep the Tito Choropan from getting soggy during delivery via Grab Food.
Pan De Verdura, packed with roasted eggplant, bell peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese, is priced at PHP 210.00 ($4.20).
Review from Carmina:
I really liked the Pan De Verdura; all my favorite vegetables were included. I just made sure to inform them when placing the order not to add bell peppers to my sandwich.
I could taste a hint of jalapeno, possibly from the sauce they used in the Pan De Verdura, but it wasn’t spicy. I thoroughly enjoyed my sandwich.
Both of my family members also enjoyed their experience with the Pepi Cubano and Tito Choropan.
All the sandwiches arrived at our location in a paper bag, wrapped up just like shown in the picture.
All sandwiches were sliced by Carmina at her home, where I showed you how each one looked so you could see the meat and vegetables in our food.
